Glaucoma care

Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that gradually damage the optic nerve, often due to increased pressure inside the eye.
Known as the “silent thief of sight,” glaucoma often develops without noticeable symptoms — making early detection and ongoing management critical.

What is Glaucoma

Glaucoma causes progressive, irreversible damage to the optic nerve. If left untreated, it can lead to peripheral vision loss and eventually complete blindness.

There are several types, including:

  • Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma (most common)

  • Angle-Closure Glaucoma

  • Normal-Tension Glaucoma

  • Secondary Glaucoma (caused by trauma, medications, or inflammation)

Symptoms of Glaucoma

  • Gradual peripheral vision loss

  • Eye pressure or discomfort

  • Halos around lights

  • Sudden vision changes (in acute cases)

  • But Glaucoma often does not present with any symptoms, making it important to have regular eye checks

Our approach

Our doctors combine detailed visual field testing, optic nerve imaging, and IOP monitoring to design a care plan that preserves your vision and suits your lifestyle.

The goal of treatment is to prevent further vision loss and preserving as much of your existing quality of life as possible.

Treatment Options

At Horizon Eye Specialists, our doctors offer tailored treatment plans based on your type and stage of glaucoma:

    • Prescription Eyedrops – To lower intraocular pressure (IOP)

    • Laser Therapy (e.g., SLT or YAG laser) – Non-invasive procedures to improve fluid drainage

    • Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) – For long-term IOP control

    • Conventional Surgery (e.g., trabeculectomy or tube shunts) – When other treatments are insufficient
